OK guys, seems no one has a glass gear for sale so I have decided to make a good mold. Does anyone have a cracked gear I can use as a plug for the mold? If not, does anyone have a gear I can borrow long enough to make the mold?
Once I have the mold, I will be able to make gears for anyone that needs one.
Thanks
Greg Smith

Just out of curiosity what happened to the gear? Something maybe we should look for on our inspections? What is the glass makeup you would use on the new gear. Thanks in advance for any input. Cheers, Larry N852LW

In the case I am working on, it appears the gear was damaged upon a high speed touch down with the brakes on, causing vertical cracks radiating from the axle plate. This may be repaired with 45 degree wraps of carbon fiber but I want a way to replace glass gears in the future. I am a firm believer in the glass gear for the Pulsar. I plan to talk about this at the Pulsar reunion.

Greg,
You mentioned your cracked gear could be repaired - couldn't you epoxy and clamp it together, then clean it up for mould purposes ?

This is exactly what I may have to do, although I am not thrilled with the idea of cutting the bottom out of the plane to remove the gear. The upper portion of the gear is in good shape and the attach points are solid with no sign of delaminating on the gear tabs, which is a good testimony to the strength of the design.

Greg,
I have had a crack going about six inches up my left gear now for about nine years. It has never gone any farther up. My theory is that the landing gear face plate keeps it from spreading. No blood,,, no fowl ! !
Knock Wood ! ! ! !
At some point before my kit #390 Aero Designs told me that they had strengthened the original composite gear. I think they said they had gone from a foam core to a solit core. I was told that to test the strengthen gear they had pressed it down flat and that it didn't break but it didn't come all the way back to its original shape either. ((( I took this all with a grain of salt. )))
What is the core material of the one you have ? ? ? ?

| Hi Greg You might think back to EAA this summer when we had a discussion with with a fellow Pulsar man and his wife from England? He was looking for a Grove gear, possibly he might want a glass set up just a thought. Emil

Hi
It was me. I have a perfectly repaired glass leg which I could ship as I got an aluminium version as it had gun-drilled holes for hydraulics.
Please let me know if it's of interest.

I am suspecting it is the solid gear. I think it can be repaired with several layers of 45 degree carbon. Your situation is encouraging.
Thanks
Greg
