|
|
I have a friend coming over from the US in a few weeks who would be willing to take some electronics with him for me.
Since I am at the beginning of getting my panel together anything would be useful, but I was thinking the radio might be the best thing now, since that is less subject to obsolescence than f.i. an EFIS.
I am basically looking for the least expensive option that would comply with (European) requirements such as channel spacing. Off the shelf availability from one of the usual US suspects would be important of course.
Suggestions welcome!
Also, if anyone has similar ideas on a mode S transponder that too would be useful, though for me that is a little bit more of a dark magic area.

Not sure about whats good from the states but I have installed two sets of the Funkwerk ATC833 and TRT800 and they have been great (reliable, light, compact, easy install) and reasonably priced.

Keep in mind that within a couple or three years, all VHF radios in all aircraft throughout EASA land will have to be 8.33 khz channel spacing compliant. In fact by 17 November 2013 "All new radio fits, including upgrades, to be capable of 8.33 kHz channel spacing".
Will that also apply in the USA? I don't know, but it could mean that I won't be able to source a replacement radio from over there for my NARCO.
Fitting a round-fronted German radio inside a rectangular hole in my panel could be messy.
