Hi all,



Any suggestions on a torque wrench for AN3 nuts/bolts. 20 in*lb range.



Also, there is a min. Edge distance, but is there also a minimum distance to a bend line.

Princess Auto has 3/8", 1/2"... work ok and the price is right!  I bought a 1/4" on ebay!

Perry, Princess auto has a very nice 1/4" drive vernier torque wrench for a reasonable price.

The problem with the vernier style torque wrench is you are supposed to calibrate them before using them in aviation.  The el-cheapo bending arm style wrench has the advantage of being cheaper than the vernier style and they do not need calibration.  Unfortunately, Canadian Tire, Princess Auto nor Acklands list 1/4" inch lb beam type torque wrenches on their web sites.  



As for the edge distance from a bend, it is generally the same as from the actual edge of the piece.  Realistically, however, it is often difficult to maintain the edge distance from both a bend and an actual edge.  If you have to  choose which edge to cheat against, go with the bend as the material will be stronger.

I have been well satisfied  with the beam-type  wrenches from Park. The TW-1 is sized for 0-60  in-lbs (fine for AN3's); the TW-2 is sized for 0-600 in-lbs. Not cheap,  but good, see, e.g.,

         I bought this one from this             company.  I was very happy with the cost and their customer service.

               

               I did have to buy a ratcheting device separately.

As always thanks for the help, we have a PA relatively close, I'll check it out.



WRT the edge distance I contacted Caleb at Zenith. He told me to look in the construction standards (cs)??? Didn't know what my problem was. Except for the blurb in the photo manual (circa 2004 paper) I had no idea what he was talking about. Turns out they published a more indepth cs in 2011 and it was on the cd of the const. Manual I bought about the same time.  It shows the edge distance from a bend and a lot more stuff. If you want a copy I can email it to you.

Thanks for the tip on the torque wrench. For the small torque I’m looking at the beam type from 0-60 inch*lb looks good and it would not take too much to calibrate it.
