Why did you get into a Red Star aircraft?
For me: 1) Saw / met Aerostars (at) Manitowoc, WI. 2008. Personable guys willing to talk Yaks - and their routine makes a heck of a statement on behalf of the type! (And a FREE TEAM T-SHIRT that has since proudly-worn beyond useful purposes) 2) While walking "Red Star Row" (at) EAA later that year I was cautioned to step back as a flight of CJ's / Yak's fired up and taxied out. (Sound is such a big deal to we musicians!) and 3) Herb Coussons gave me a not-so-gentle introductory hop in his TW at AirVenture '09. (Still my greatest EAA experience in 27 years attendance!) That was it. I was firmly smitten w/ the robust construction, pleasing aesthetics, foreign engineering peculiarities, and the glorious pops of those round engines! The wrong career to support this hobby forced the wait for the feasible "in," but I have never lost that "lovin' feelin" every time I walk into the hangar. (Even when I'm inventing new curse words during some less-than-pleasant maintenance issues.) And if ALL the parts of my plane ever function correctly AT THE SAME TIME, I will be livin' the dream! Close...so very close...hopefully, persistence really DOES pay off!
