a few weeks ago i posted about a friend with gauges that wouldn't hold still. as was suggested, when he put in a proper ground from battery to engine, his problems disappeared.

That's great news!  Bob's espousal of the common ground prevents or cures a multitude of aeroplane electrical sins.

Actually, it would have been better to take the
instrument grounds to the engine and leave the battery
tied to a common firewall ground . . . but what ever
works! I'm pleased that his instruments are now
more stable.

i dunno, the battery and engine/firewall were connected by the fuselege!.
