Hello all,

I’ve just recently bought a 500A (N78379) and have gone back and read, during my pre-purchase research, many of the posts Bill Bow made during his ownership of this aircraft. I’ve enjoyed reading them and already feel a part of this group even though this is my first time to ask a question. I’m having a few things fixed and one squawk is no way to lock the cabin. There are no guts to the door hardware and it looks like I need a complete latch assembly. Would anyone have an idea where I might find one?

I recently bought a 685 and just had the local locksmith put the "coke machine" type security locks on all the doors - works a treat

That’s what Valair was trying to do when the locksmith told them there isn’t enough there to do that with. It seems we need enough to start with to re-key with the coke machine type, but that is our goal.

Our aircraft had no locks at all, cost me $US210 for a door, baggae compartment and battery access.

If you are missing the mechanism then I know Atlanta Salavge has about 6 Commanders in pieces with doors.

The locks are also the same for many Aerostars.  Good luck.

That's what I was going to say - the lock and handle on my Aerostar is almost identical to my old 520. I bet they're the same part.

If in fact BE 18 parts work, which I have no clue if that is true, McGill
Aviation Parts in Shreveport LA (318) 687-2700

I bought round engine airplane parts from them for 20 years and they have
good stuff.
