Pulsar Pals:
There is an article in the current months Kit Planes magazine about Rotax engine service training. One statement that caught my attention was the authors mention that Rotax has slated to discontinue the manufacture of the 582, but has not yet determined a date (note this is not word for word as stated in the article but is my closest recollection of what was written).
For an engine that has a 300 hour TBO, whenever Rotax's discontinues producing the 582, I could imagine in a short number of years would quickly make it hard keeping this engine flying.
I thought that the 582 still had a great following in powered parachutes, Quick Silver types, snow mobiles and jet skis.
Anybody think the author of the article is absolutely correct or is he stating something that may happen a decade from now? The author did mention that Rotax's reason for discontinuing the 582 was environmental (pressures for emissions performance).
