Years ago one of CJ guys found a prop where the Chinese found corrosion had filled with bond-do and repainted. I and Jeff Linebaugh found both his props with large integranduar corrosion at the blades mid point. He got a new set (still in factory box) of blades and found the tips badly corroded!
If money is a concern but still want to be safe, I'd send the props to a good prop shop. Have them strip and x-ray the blades. Let them determined if the blade is repairable i.e. file it smooth and re balance both blades. That far out on the tip, the blades performance will not suffer as there is a lot lost out there anyway. This type of corrosion is from the quenching process when the blade come out the furnace.
I've seen blades with larger damage than that repaired in the field with the blessing of the manufacture. A good prop shop can use the same rules of like props to determine what to do about yours.

Great post Pappy! Very interesting.
Are there any shops you might recommend down here in FL, or wherever...
Thx
Keith

Yep. Orlando Propeller over hauled my old Chinese prop years ago when I had the HS 260 on the airplane. They most likely won't sign a log or any type certification form, (just hand you the bill) but can do the work with the expertise needed. I later sold that prop to a buddy when he did a gear up near TIX after I had put the M-14p in.. Anyway they did a good inspection, painted and balanced it. I do not remember the cost but a call to them will give you an idea.

Palm Beach Propeller did a nice job on stock CJ blades for me via Curtis at George Baker a few years ago(Curtis balances them really nice). Reasonable price.
