Corvair people-
I'm to the point where I have to remove the short bolts already tack welded into the firewall engine mounts, and need to know the least destructive way of getting rid of the old ones. Do I have to beef up the existing parts, or should I even go so far as to make new ones?

that to brings me to my next question in the 701's is anyone even running corvair? I'm sitting on a corvair engine and it would be nice to use it.

I have an unused set with the long bolts that you can have for free. Note that the upper mounts are the old style ones that are *not* integrated with the canopy attachment points. Picture attached. If you want them tell me where to send them.

Ben, I believe the Corvair is a bit heavy for the 701. Jerry 701 0% done.

William Wynne is working on it. Look a little down from the top of this page:

Right now, I am looking at the direct drive VW with water cooled heads from Great Plains and/or I am also very attracted to an engine that does not yet exist which is the single rotor based on the Mazda rotary engine. I will not install less than 100 hp since I have very short (800 ft) grass field. I like the Jabiru and Rotax but they are out of my league financially. I like the Harley Hog engine too. It looks cool and sounds great. Jerry 701 0% done

Guys,
HomebuiltHelp.com has a good video that may answer your questions: The "912" Competition. It covers the Sub, AeroVee, Corvair, Rotec, Jab, Suzuki, and Great Plains VW. Worth a look-see for sure!

Ben,
Please note that you hi-jacked Bill’s “Subject” about engine mounts. Your questions will be lost in the List if you do not change your Subject, and Bill’s answers will be diluted by a different subject matter.

Ben,
The original question was about fitting the engine mount, not about running Corvair engines on a 701 (which is a very good subject all by itself).
When you hit the ‘REPLY’ button, merely tab down or click on ‘Subject’ and make a change. That way future listers can refer to the subject you intended, to get the information they are seeking.
I apologize if I seemed harsh. That was not my intent. My intent is to preserve the value of all this information as a future data base. You may not be aware that individuals can go to the Matronics site and do a “search” on any topic. Those topics need to be kept as pure as possible.
I wish you the best of luck in your future building endeavor.
