Cappy's Toy has been a little sluggish lately. By this I mean she just did
not feel normal in approach, sometimes a slight buffet early and higher than
normal descent rates at normal approach airspeeds. Almost like an approach
to stall. I started to think about Reno Red's original problem with
airspeed (indicated reading high) and checked the B nuts on my pitot static
system today. I was able to tighten all of them a bit and miraculously
everything was A-OK again.
I think I was indicating higher than actual and this was making me slower
than normal during approach. It seems like a leak in the pitot would cause
the opposite effect but all I can say is it fixed Reno Red's problem and now
mine.
I bring it up to remind everyone to check these at annual inspection time.
I failed on to do so on my annual in November.
