I will probably fly an airplane from California to Colorado and drop in to
the get together. Kingman, Arizona. If that changes I'll let you know.

What is the fly-in date?
If you need a GIB from wherever call me.
I think an event as described will be a BLAST!

Kingman, Arizona in March. Sounds good to me. Some flying, formation, eating, drinking
hanger fly. Probably good in that order.

Lots of runway and open spaces! Good enchiladas at the airport.

Carl Hayes could probably get us some gas deals. (not from the enchiladas)

Any serious takers?

I have vacation last weekend in March and could make it down from Reno.
I'm sure two other California 29's would make it also.
Like I said befor Carl and Jill Hays just moved their operation to Kingman
and they would be helpful if anyone needed tools/maintenance.

Kingman AZ....? That's gonna be a pricey one for us guys on the East
Coast. It would be an expensive flight to get my pig out there. Oink,
Oink....
Think I'll wait untill Oshkosh and go for the big show and bring a 4 sale
sign and see if I can find any suckers.

Do you think it is possible to Bitch any more about your 29. No one really
cares how much you hate it and what a huge pig, slow POS you think it is. If
you hate It so much DON'T fly it. Stop whining and go away. This site is for
people who want to talk about there l29's share info and experiences Not cry
about how much they hate them. Just my .02

Your .02??

Do you own an L-29? My guess is no. Have you actually flown in a L-29? My
guess is no.
Do you have a L-29 type. My guess is no. Do you have anywhere near 1,000
hours? My guess again is no and that's ok. I don't care one way or the
other so don't bother correcting me if I'm wrong, but I'm probably right on
the mark "if I had to guess".
I enjoy my plane, but unfortunately it is a pig. It's a characteristic of
the L-29. (Marginal performance and fairly significant fuel burn) I've
watched the market on the L-29's and it has literally fallen out of the sky
because of cheap ratty imports and of course expensive fuel. Some of the
guys are trying to sell their L-29s and they are stuck with let's say, "A
pig n a poke" LOL!
Calling the L-29 what it is "a pig" is not bitching or whining. Reality is
reality. Now, with the JT or Viper conversion the plane is a good
performer, but with the M701 it's a pig.
The forum is just that.... a forum. Like it or hate it.
We all wish the plane had more than 1900# (give or take) of thrust and
that's indisputable. If you don't appreciate my comments then just read
past my posts. Simple as that.
Best regards my fellow "piglets" "Oink, Oink"
That's my .10 worth.
Have a great day/evening!

So we all agree to block out Steve Roberts.
Don't worry about making the fly-in from the East coast Steve, I think
several post ago we suggested that you try to NOT come to our fly-ins.
Thanks for doing so, regardless of the excuse. L-39s are available for
$125,000. I'll give $33,000 for your pork, it is the other white meat. Then
you can get a super fast, high altitude, long range L-39. Or do as I have
done, put a Viper in your L-29 and enjoy the ride. And out perform the L-39.
Even your fuel flow will go down.

Serious question, did you test fly it before you bought it? What were you
expecting and which part of turbines & fuel flow didn't you grasp? That fact
has never changed since the first turbines. So try to have a good time when
at the fly-in yard with your buddies, (I assume you don't alienate
everyone,) remember, a bad day at the airport is better than a good day at
work.

Bad markets are typical. Gas price up = ALL airplane prices go down.

I read your first post, you definetly were whinning and bitching. I'm
married with children, I definetly know what whinning and bitching sounds
like. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck.....

MOVING ON....

Dear happy owners/pilots;

We pretty much figure this is a West Coast fly-in. There are a few in the
East that we can't afford to get to. We too want to fly and hang out. Of
course we welcome everybody that graves those days when they can fly even if
we can only afford a few times around the patch.

We need to contact Carl Hayes, learn where we sleep, how many $$ for fuel.
I will be happy to call him. Does anybody have his number?
Who's really serious about the weekend of the 25th? (week before Easter)
Show up Friday go home Sunday or when $$ runs out? (Friday afternoon!)

Well, its a great snowy day in Colorado! Normal 25 kt. wind, Skiings good,
I'm still vertical and breathing on my own. How bad can it be. Satrt saving
for gas!

2's IN!

Bill, can you enlighten us on the Viper engine, please? Like, how easy
are they to find, costs, fuel burn, and best of all, how they make the
-29 soar???

Thanks,
David

I'm just a lowly 100 hour pilot, still learning to land, LOL, but I can see
the economics involved with these "pigs" Someone else stated they are pigs
relative to other jet warbirds, but compare favorably in performance to piston
warbirds. Now, using the P-51 as an example, take the $1 million dollar
purchase price, 60+ gallons per hour of fuel burn, 1000 hour or less TBO on the
powerplant, and expense involved with it's rebuild (guessing $75000). Compare
that to the -29 price of $45,000, 160 gallons per hour, and replacement
powerplants are how much? $8000 or so? Looks like the -29 is much more economical
to me! Written from the viewpoint of a know nothing Cessna driver of course,
so take my opinion with several grains of salt!
