Steve,
I don't know if I have it in me anymore to build one, but I would love to see the performance of Glasair Super 2 S and a three in carbon fiber with all known speed mods. The engineer that worked with Stoddard Hamilton wanted to produce after market speed mods for the line. I saw the carbon fiber wing he designed for the Aurora on display at Oshkosh. I believe it was four feet longer and my 110 pound wife could easily lift the whole assembly off the bench using just her two hands. Conversely, it took two strong men to carry my wing. Estimates of weight reductions from 300 to500 pounds for a carbon fiber Glasair three have been suggested. I think a carbon fiber GL three carrying several hundred pounds less would not only clean up at Reno, it would have a higher cruise speed, be easier to land and would have a higher survivability rate in an off field engine failure.
Getting back to your plane, I should think with your configuration you would have a cruise speed at 8,000 feet in the 210 to 220 mph range. Before owning my GL 2S Ft I owned a T-18 TD with a souped up 160 that cruised around 175/180 mph. Compared to the Glasair, the T-18 plane was dirty. Stoddard Hamilton advertised my plane in the 228 to 238 mph range using a 180 hp engine. I was disappointed to see only 210 with a 200 hp engine with a constant speed prop. The only saving grace is the Glasair is wider, has double the range, the airframe is virtually maintenance free and is thirty miles an hour faster. As builder's finished their projects and test flew their planes, it became rather apparent those speeds were not attainable in the planes configuration, so Stoddard Hamilton changed the advertised numbers.
