Message for those attempting Mod 74, and things they dont tell you. Perhaps others have found this easy, mine was quite tricky..
You are going to have to spend many hours hanging like a monkey in the baggage bay, in a confined space, wondering which hand to use to drill/turn nuts etc... unless you are 18 years old and supple, your muscles and joints will ache. In this confined space, you will have to precision drill through interlocking spring steel fittings, eg through tie bar/W35 end fittings, and W34 plates. Ordinary drill bits will not suffice, and on occasion everything had to come out for finishing with a pillar drill..
The holes are close against the rear of the cockpit module, where ordinary electric drills have no space for a vertical alignment. If you try with an ordinary electric drill - unless it has a 45 or 90 degree end fitting (= very costly type of drill) - you will fail and make a mess of parts like I did. Equals long delay and cost as you order new parts through DHL (I am based in Kenya with Europa 5Y-LRY).
I did my work in a maintenance/repair hangar in Nairobi facility for Cessna Citations and Beech King Airs, so no shortage of tools/expertise. But still this was challenging. I used a pneumatic 45 degree drill, with cobalt bit, and eventually got things straight. But the message is.. dont rush, get the right tools, or you will find it impossible to do this mod correctly... some 42 separate holes have to line up precisely. You will need a 45 or 90 degree angled drill, which is not a common tool.
Afterwards you may need some physiotherapy.
Regards to all.
Richard

Hi I am still building my XS Tri-gear with a long way to go. I have just
finished fitting the tie bar and rear wing mounts etc. I picked up an angle
drill attachment complete with flexible drives 2 off from Aldi. Its cheep
but it works and I will probably only use it a few times on the whole
project . Best of luck Richard
