As I was leaving work today, I noticed several Cessna 150s and 172s were still sitting on their tails from the snow load on their horizontal stabs from a storm last week. It got me wondering how the .016 skin on a CH701 holds up with a snow load on it.
Anyone in snow country tie down outside, or does everyone have hangar/garage space?

701 is outside all winter and does well. Every morning I run out and
brush off the wings and fuselage if it has snowed. Cushions are stored
in the hanger. It has never been on it's tail, though the 172 tied right
beside the 701 is constantly on it's ass.

This is the 2nd winter for my 701. Last winter, in heavy snowfalls the tail would drop. I put a couple of tires just in front of the tail hook for it to plop onto.
This year I drove a couple of plastic stakes into the ground on each side of the nose wheel. I loop a rope between one and a ring on the other stake then around the bottom of the nose strut. It also helps keep the plane from weathercocking which will be more likely once the nose wheel lifts.
This weekend we got our first massive snow dump. The 150 next to me was ass down with it tailplane buried in the snow. My nosewheel was being held just off the ground. I liked that better.

Thanks for the replies--I presume that there's no trouble with heavy snow loads (permanently) deforming the .016 skin between ribs then.

Hello listmembers.
Just move to Iceland. No snow up here, but windy. Helps with the take-
off.
do not archive.
Happy flying and building.
