Aileron rigging - Reflex ?

I have the flaps and ailerons mounted to the wing and the wing is 

attached to the fuse. (I don't have the wing tips on yet).  It's pretty 

straight forward to align the ailerons with the trailing edges of each 

flap. However, I recall somewhere seeing/hearing about a 'reflex' 

position where the ailerons were rigged 'up' 2-3 degrees on each side. 

IIRC correctly this increased performance. What's the experience/advice 

from those who are flying?

talks about it, so I assume it exists. Wondering if this unit is

preferable to the flap positioning system.

Put the flaps up in the reflex position and then line up the ailerons.   

You really have to have the wingtips on before you can set the 

ailerons.  The cruise position is to have everything in the "reflex" 

position.



Alex D.  taught me to drop the flaps from the reflex to the neutral on 

downwind.  It helps slow you down.

I use the flaps in trail or 1st position down with the prepositioning switch 

mod for takeoff and again entering downwind.  The limiting airspeeds are in 

section 5 of the text.  As you get used to the airplane you can definitely 

feel the effect of the flaps moving into or out of the reflex or full up 

position.

Thanks Dick, what I was missing is that when the flaps are fully 

retracted they are in the 'Reflex' position. I'm going to mount the wing 

tips tomorrow, and then I'll 'final' rig the ailerons.
