Group...
working on wiring and placing everything on the sub-panels for the AFS systems.

Question... where to mount the XM weather antenna. On the -7A I mounted the 430 antenna under the cowling and have had zero problems with reception. However, after following the recent discussion here , I do plan to mount the 430 gps antenna outside on top of the cabin because of WAAS. I have xm on the 396 but I've never really mounted the antenna.... just left it on the glareshield.

So... where have you been successful in mounting both the xm antenna and also the gps antenna that can be purchased from AFS (or even more important, not been successful Smile )

Thanks,
Doug

I mounted my WSI/Sirius antenna on the glareshield and it has worked
quite well. I don't know for sure, but I think others have had good
luck with XM antennas on the glareshield as well.

I saw several at OSH last year mounted on the dash panel.
Note - be sure to make it removable. Your subscription is tied to the exact antenna that you register, so if you want to use it remote or at home make it removable..... Very Happy

Actually, the subscription is tied to the receiver, not the antenna.
In the case of the X96 by Garmin, the receiver is inside the puck with
the antenna. For the AFS, this is not the case.

Bracing for the flaming, the xm signal seems more robust than the GPS
signal from my experience working inside a hangar or office, so under
the cowl is probably not going to give you problems if you put other
backup antennae there as well.
