Good looking bird! I envy the windsock hanging straight down. Winds here have been 30+ knots for a week. Had one day that the winds were gusting over 65 knts.. was lifting one float out of the water about 2'. Was darn lucky my buddy was keeping an eye on my plane for me and moved some pallets of brick down to the edge of the lake and tied my plane down good... except he got out of the bob cat he was using to move the pallets and she took a swim LOL. he tied the plane down, heard a wierd burble burble glug glug and looked around... no bobcat... then he saw about 3" if the top rack sticking out of the water.... I told him he shoulda left it there, it would have made a good tie down LOL

Dan-
It looks (from the picture) like your exhaust pipes protrude through
the lower cowl...it this correct? You might not be aware, but if you
flip flop the muffler, the exhaust pipes will exit right through the
lower cowl rear opening without making nary a cut into the cowl. When
I got my engine, I cut two big holes in the cowl for the pipes then
somebody let me know about the flip flop capability of the muffler.
It sure makes taking the lower cowl off a lot easier.

Lynn, they do go out through the cowl! I wasn't aware that the muffler could be reversed- bummer- cut two big holes in the cowl, thanks for the info.

If you look inside my lower cowl there are two oblong patches in it
from my repair job. Making mine worse was the fact that the pipes out
of the Jabiru muffler were splayed at an angle, requiring that the
holes be even larger than necessary just to make it through the cowl.
All you have to do is turn the muffler end-for-end, and the pipes
will go "back and down" instead of "down and back". Easier to do than
to explain why. But be sure to support the pipes with a flexible
hanger like an automotive tail pipe hanger, or a stainless steel
cable up to the lower firewall. The unsupported length of those pipes
will vibrate and break off and you don't want that...neither did I,
but it happened to me and I could have had a bad fie as a result, but
I got lucky. So please support those pipes.
