All;

I have had a water leak into the cockpit ofmy airplane since I first got it. I tired every thing I could think of tostop the leak with no luck. I even went as far as trying a "special" foam rubber door gasket but it kept leaking. Yesterday while looking a the problem I realized the water had not been getting between oraround the gasket, but betweenthehinge and the door skin.

The water had been getting between the hinge and thedoor skin on the outsideof the gasket,running between the two tothe other sideof the gasket inside the cockpit.I put some clear silicone sealant wherethe hingemeetsthe doorskins.I closed the door so the silicone sealant would work its way anywhere watercould go and let it set a few minutes. I then opened the door to make sure I hadn't sealed the door shut.After I let it dry I closed the door, poured water directly onto the hinge and all around the door with no leaking into the cockpit at all.

If your door has a water leak and you can't seem to stop it, check where the hinge meets the door. Seal around itand see if it works. It worked for me. Now to figure out how to open the door during a rainstorm without getting wet. )
