Some of you may remember I have been shopping for a new camera with better quality and longer recording time. I had good advise, that I of course chose to ignore, and bought a Holdr HD camera. While it took some very good videos, I could not play them on my TV, had to use Quick Time to view them, had to buy Quick Time Pro from Apple to edit it. (The program would not read music without buying another program.) If I converted it to AVI, there was no sound and the quality was degraded with each conversion. Some of the clips wouldn't play. The Camera had something wrong with it so that the computer would not recognize it. They offered to repair or replace the camera. No thanks!
I decided to go with John Bickhams recommendation of the Tachyon XC. It is bigger, but quite a bit cheaper than the Vholder. My problem was with the mounting of the camera. John put his on his wind screen and his apparently does not have as much vibration as mine. I tried using a side mount with a foam base, but there was harmonic vibration in a test that I did this morning.

So I reverted to my original mounting point and put it on the nose. The view is better and the vibration is less.

I was a bit short on camera threaded screws, but this one will do until I get another one. You will notice that there is no padding under the swivel mount, but I think the video is acceptable.

I just viewed it on You Tube, and of course the quality sucks, It looks great on the computer and on the TV, but I guess one can't complain.
One other comment, I viewed John's video this morning, and while I may end up on my back in case of a forced landing out here in the desert, and I may die of dehydration while trying to walk out, I most likely won't hit anything harder than my head, unlike all those closely packed trees.

Have you tried a helmet or head strap? They work good, take up any vibration and will auotmaticly point the camera where ever you look, and you have hand access to the camera controls. Pete

Actually I have done just that and it is surprising how fast and often your heard snaps around when you are flying, especially close to the ground. The brain makes it seem smooth, but watching it can give you whiplash, plus the lexan even though it is clear, does not do anything to improve the quality. I personally prefer to have a clear and unfettered view ahead of the plane. There are no bars in the way and the quality is not further degraded by the windscreen. All you have to do is point the airplane to see what you see, you just have to remember that the objects are closer than they appear.

Heck Larry,
I don't have rocks growing out of my runway! Those trees provide a gentle cushion that gives you just enough time to wonder if it is over before you plummet straight down 80 feet.
The camera looks good. I looked at some of your previous vids on YouTube and I see a definite improvement in quality. I just wish I had time to fly AND produce videos.
