Got a question on gas caps.
During an annual on a 79 Tiger, I noticed the fuel cap "O" ring was deteriorated and decided to replace the "O" rings. When I opened up the inside for the little "O" ring, I found some Tinnerman clips acting as springs for the locking mechanism. Had I not just done the same "O" ring replacement on a 79 Cheetah's fuel caps, I wouldn't have questioned it. I tried to find info on it in the maintenance manual but it isn't there. No IPB. I found this link during a Google search. It's helpful, but I still need a parts breakdown.

Is the make/model a Shaw 531?

About a year ago, my IA and I found a cap with two of the three springs inside broken. I finally tracked down the company that makes the Shaw Aero caps (I don’t remember the exact story, but I think Shaw Aero had been sold to a new “parent” company). Anyway, I spoke with the guy who presented himself as the tech rep for the fuel cap product. To say he was less than helpful would be an understatement. His position was that, since there was no approved field repair for the caps, he would provide neither drawings nor parts lists to me nor my IA. He said the only fix/repair/service for a worn or broken cap was to send it to his facility for overhaul to the tune of something like $325. This is my recollection of something that happened over a year ago, so the specific details might be a little off, but they are close. What I am absolutely sure of is that I couldn’t get any tech support from the company now making the Shaw Aero caps. If somebody can schmooze a parts list or tech drawing, I’d sure like a copy. Oh, a source for parts would be awesome too. As if!

nice, but you couldn't make them work without making it look like it was homemade.
