The Orlando FSDO issued my LODA to give transition training in my RV-10, effective today.
I re-submitted the packet that I had previously submitted last January, as soon as the new guidelines were issued, in September. The process took about two months and the inspector I worked with at the FSDO was great to work with. I got things worked out with my Insurance, so all systems are go.
So, if anybody wants to come to sunny central Florida for transition training this winter, I am now available. I will also consider bringing my airplane to your location.

I will keep you in mind. Most of my family lives near or in Sebring. Planning on finishing in about a year.

I sent a LODA package to my local FSDO about a year ago and got a LOAD in
return; in addition they specifically stated (with the LODA) that I could
not endorse anyone for high performance because that training could be
conducted in a certified aircraft. At that point I decided not to pursue
further. As with many government sanctioned endeavors, the hassle was not
worth the potential return. Perhaps the latest EAA efforts have borne fruit.

depends on your time and type. My insurance requirement was one hour. people
who have flown my aircraft have been required 3 and 5 and 0 respectively.
The three was a 300 TT current private without IR. The five was a 300 TT
current private without IR. The 0 was a CFII 4000+ TT ASEL AMEL and flying a
Piper Dakota(currently a 10 builder).

David
N46007 360 TT
4000+ TT 2500 RG/HP CFII A&P original requirement 1 hour dual received.
Currently 300+ RV10 with about 20+ hours of dual given in my RV10.

The numbers vary widely. All my insureds were through EAA Falcon insurance;
typically 1.5-2.5% of hull initially.covered all. Anymore than 5 on
insurance is a "club" and demands commercial rates.

Hi Dave,
As DLM noted, different insurance companies will vary widely. With 18,000 hours, ATP, CFII, lots of recent Bonanza experience, no accidents or incidents, my insurance still wanted 5 hours with a CFI to cover me from first flight. 1.45% of hull value is the cost of my insurance.

Dave,
I'd like to set something up with you for end of March when I'll be down your way on vacation, how will you be handling scheduling, etc.?

I am late to this thread.......but better late than never. My insurance
company required 5 hours of transition training from one of two
instructors...Mike Seager and Alex DeDominicis.....you might want to check
with your insurance company before you go down. I am sure it is not a
problem, but you never know when it comes to an insurance company paying a
claim.....

That is a good point... David and anyone else who get
the LODA, you may want to speak with AIG and Global, or
perhaps get the word out through your agent and have them
pass it to those companies, and get on the accepted list.
When I did mine (which was a while ago) one company specifically
only said Mike Seager, and the other said Mike or Alex...but
they specified the people who qualified. I'm sure it's
probably a bit more relaxed now, but getting your name to
those companies as one of their accepted people would be
a plus. It would be nice to see a list of 5 or 10 people
in various parts of the country.

Good point Rene and Tim. I will speak to my agent. When I got mine from Alex, my insurance just required five hours with a CFI in an RV-10. When I told them I was going to Alex, they seemed to know who he was, but no requirement to use him or Mike.
At any rate, I will explore this.

This is the same as what I have seen. I have never had a request for a specific CFI, just a specific requirement with a CFI. For someone doing the dual in their own plane, that CFI just had to get covered in that plane first.

With 1200 hrs and no inst. rating , my insurance required 10 hrs. I flew 4 hrs. with Dave McNeil as a passenger to get the feel of the bird, and then the 10 with Mike Seager.

You were a passenge in the left seat until we got to Silver Springs, then
you made 5 or 6 takeoffs and landings. I don't recall whether I signed your
book.

We did our transition training last June with Joe. All three of us were very pleased with his abilities. Five stars with us, thanks Joe and happy holidays.

Update:
My insurance guy communicated with the big three underwriters and found that none of them are requiring specific RV-10 transition trainers. He said there might still be an occasional issue with an individual pilot, where the carrier might want some information about the qualification of the instructor the pilot intends to utilize for transition training. This could be a situation where the insured is very low time, or the airplane will be flown out of a demanding airstrip, or some other unique situation. At any rate, my insurance guy said I should not have any problems in this area.
So, as I said earlier, if you are looking for RV-10 transition training, I am available in sunny (but pretty chilly right now) Florida.

Awesome, David, I'm glad they aren't as restrictive as before.
I was only something like #24 flying, so it's easy to understand
how things would change after 300 more RV-10's after me are
flying. This will give some great flexibility in people's
choices as to how far they have to travel for training.
Now if we only had one up this way...

The FAA today released a new Advisory Circular that addresses the need for transition training in Experimental AB aircraft, as well as any airplane that is new to a pilot. It can be seen here. http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentID/1018499
