i am sorry to open this up again as I remember it being beat to death earlier but I can not find it in the archives. I have one flaperon that has the white plastic coating on it and for the life of me I can not get it off. I soaked rags in paint thinner on the other one and on one side of this flaperon but it seems to have no effect on the one side. I have done it for a month now and there is hardly any efferct. does anyone have any other ideas? Is there a different solvent to try? I hate to start to sand it off but I am running out of ideas. thanks in advance.

Hi Tim, A little over a year ago I purchased a partly built 1992 M4/1200 Speedster from a gentleman in California, He had been been working on it from time to time but had never removed the white plastic from the flarerons (12 to 13 years!) I spent about two full days getting it off and had the sore fingers for a while to prove it. I found the only way was to heat it with a heat gun, and peel it off a strip or a little bit at a time, very slow work but it did work, with lots of patience and a few burned fingers the job got done. Lots of luck, hope this is a help, Don

Be careful of solvents as the flaperon is glued together with foam
cores. There is a good solution, but I don't remember what it is.

I had good luck using the paint thinner that you mentioned...mineral
spirits. Make sure that it's fresh, maybe? Soak rags spread over the
surface, and keep them wet for 8 hours or more, then scrape with
plastic scraper. That's all that I can offer. Mine were 11 years old
when I got them, but probably kept out of the sun all that time. Maybe
yours got sun-cooked.

Try mineral spirits. Using a heat gun made it worse on mine. Wrap a cotton
towel soaked in mineral spirits and placed on the flaperon with plastic
wrap. Let is sit for 2 - 3 days and use a good quality plastic furniture
refinishing scraper.

Try WD-40, it seems to work on everything else. David N317DY =
