Hi Ted, Bob,
You hit the nail on the head. Not many are interested in buying an incomplete airplane. If you finish and get
a registration number for it, it's a whole another story. I'm planning to complete mine because I still love building it,
but will probably be selling it sans firewall forward and avionics.
Does anyone know where I can get a cowling for it. Pulsar screwed me out of a cowling.

Another option is to make your own cowl. Wrap the engine really well in plastic then build up a base of pour foam and start carving. I think it would go pretty fast once you got going. That's how the factory did it from what I saw. I'd bodywork the part before you take it off the foam.

You should be able to make a mold for the cowl that way but just trying to create one by application over an existing cowlingwould result in a larger cowling than the original.

Hi Al,
If you really can not find a cowling let me know. I have TR4 cowls for the 6 cylinder Continental and 4 cylinder Lycoming in carbon fiber. At some point I would like to sell one depending on what engine I will use. I am planing on using a 6 cylinder Lycoming so I think I will be selling the 4 cyl Lycoming cowling at some time.

Use the inside of an existing cowl instead of the outside of the cowl to makethe poured foam mold. This makes the inside part of the cowl correct. Then build up with fiberglass layers until the outside of the cowl is the correct size. Finally, sand to perfection.BUT the best way is when the engine is hung, then do the plastic covered / foam carving method already mentioned. This is exactly how I saw the factory do it on several occasions.

Mark,
The 4 cyl. lycoming cowling would be just the ticket if it's not too expensive. Do not need it right not but let me know when you're ready.

This method will work great for a one off production but be careful to set the cowling in a frame that will hold it steady and maintain the proper shape while you pour in the foam. The plaster mold process using the outside of the cowling would create a better option if you want to be able to create more than one copy and use the vacuum mold process.
