I MADE MY DUST COVER WITH 1/4 INCH HARDWARE CLOTH LARGER THEN NEEDED.CUT TO SIZE LATER,COVERED WITH DUCT TAPE THEN WITH PEELPLY,TWO LAYERS OF FIBERGLASS,ONE LAYER OF CARBON FIBER THEN PUT IT ON TOP OF THE CONTROL PANEL AND USED CLEECO CLIPS AND WOOD BRACES TO HOLD IT IN PLACE UNTILL DRY.ADDED 1/4 INCH FOAM .ADDED EXTRA FOAM ON EDGE AT CONTROL PANEL.

THANKS ALL FOR THE TIPS. There's many ways to skin this cat. �I think I will cut one out of sheet metal and bend it to shape. then do layups using the metal as a mould. �Then surface the whole thing with 1/4" soft foam and cover with beige vinyl that I'm using for the interior.

To make my glare shield I first taped and propped 1/4" foam across the top flat area so I would have support for cutting and fitting heavy construction paper that I bought at Staples. I cut and fit the paper to the rough size, sometimes cutting and taping it together for getting a closer actual fit. When this was done I laid up two layers of glass on the table that was large enough that I could cut out the pattern after the layers had hardened.� I approximate cut this and re-fit it in the actual location. It was limber enough that the curved edges fit around the radius of the sides. I mistakenly over cut this piece when I scribed and cut it until it finally fit, which meant I had to make another lay up. Now before I fit this piece I cut 3/4" blue foam triangle pieces on the table say and fit them in place on what would be the underside of the glare shield, spaced about ever 6" running full length front to back. I then glassed them in place with two layers of 2" wide glass cloth. Be sure and give at least 1 inch clearance front and back so the triangle pieces don't hit the instrument panel or the�rear mounting, how ever you support the rear edge.
Having done all this on the table, now remove the supporting foam etc. that was used to make the paper pattern and begin to scribe and make the final fit of the actual glare shield. The ribs will support the open areas and give rigidity so you can lay almost anything on it when finished and it won't sag. The side curved radius can be fit by using a heat gun, getting the area hot enough so it will bend. When it cools it will stay in that configuration. I used Velcro along the lower edge of the instrument panel to hold it in tight and two plate nuts on top of the instrument panel to hold it in place. I let my glare shield extend forward of the instrument panel about 1 1/2" and put the rubber edge strip on for protection. I got some black material and using spray contact cement covered the top.

Al,
You might find it easier to use a stiff wire mesh instead of the sheet metal. It is much easier to mold and shape the mesh than the sheet metal. You can also easily cut slits into it and then tie parts back together. Once you have the desired shape, cover with tape and that sticky Saran wrap.� You can then layup over that.

THAT IS WHY I USED 1/4 HARDWARE CLOTH FOR THIS AND FOR THE ARM REST THAT I MADE TO COVER THE DOOR LOCKS AND HEAT AND AIR VENTS FOR THE BACK SEAT.WHEN THE ITEMS WERE FINISHED I REMOVED THE HARDWARE CLOTH.
