They work fine if adjust them just with a bit tender!

It is very easy if same time have a bit imagination that (The Knob) is a sweet clitoris. Do not broke it!

Maybe that (ability to use those Naca vents with Russian vertical spiral) is deep inside in a Finnish nature: we have lived thousands of years just west from Russia and our borderline is about 1000 miles long.

PS: if honest during the building phase I hated them. But there were so many things I would have liked to do otherway or change. But I had not competence to do so. And did not want to use even more money. Hey I had a complete aircraft kit they said! So I decided to go on with those vents. And using them gently they have worked just fine. If I remember correct these are new ones – I also did broke them when trying them first time...and that is why I strenghtened them some how – maybe by using large area washers or so.

And the CG has to go back into the middle of the range. A new, light weight, low power, panel along with removal of the big alternator should take care of most of that.

Hi There all,

As French we are used to play with clitoris, but I must admit that I broke one of the green Russian spiral. Has anybody one available? Do you think Europa delivers it (I didn’t ask yet)?

Europa will probably be able to supply them but they get them from Aircraft Spruce in California.

The vent mechanism is crap. Mine also broke long before I finished building.For a few dollars ACS supply a repair kit, which is unbreakable.

The co-pilot's vent broke at the base of the plastic screw the first time I tried to open it after installing it. I used super glue , but there is a small opening when closed. I figured that I'd have to tape over it during the winter months or when I went to 12-13K.

Has anybody coming up with a good fix? I'm going to the paint shop in the next couple of weeks.

I formed my own NACA vents and ended them at vents that I got from a car scrapyard. I think they are from a Ford Fiesta 1990's vintage.
Fantastic. Robust & lots of air.
I looked at the ones on offer at that time and thought that they were pretty junky & they do not seem to have improved!

Somebody mentioned a repair kit for the vent screw for ACS - any idea of a part number?

They work fine if adjust them just with a bit tender!

 

It is very easy if same time have a bit imagination that (The Knob) is a sweet clitoris. Do not broke it!

 

Maybe that (ability to use those Naca vents with Russian vertical spiral) is deep inside in a Finnish nature: we have lived thousands of years just west from Russia and our borderline is about 1000 miles long.

PS: if honest during the building phase I hated them. But there were so many things I would have liked to do otherway or change. But I had not competence to do so. And did not want to use even more money. Hey I had a complete aircraft kit they said! So I decided to go on with those vents. And using them gently they have worked just fine. If I remember correct these are new ones – I also did broke them when trying them first time...and that is why I strenghtened them some how – maybe by using large area washers or so.

That's why we dislike them. Cheep, crapy, miserable adjustments. They broke the first time I attempted to open/close them (thankfully, before they were installed). And they are not repairable. So they went into the dust bin and I bought outrageously expensive but completely functional vents (Ultimate Ventilators) from ACS.

Rebuilding the instrument panel and working on a major weight reduction program for The Little Dragon Lady. She has to loose about 50 lbs (that's 3 Stone 8 for you guys in the UK). And the CG has to go back into the middle of the range. A new, light weight, low power, panel along with removal of the big alternator should take care of most of that.

Hi Guys,
My solution to repair and improve the Naca vents was to remove the shut off system, make a fiberglass conduit and install adjustable aluminium vents.
Works fine. See attached pics.

Hi Remi,

Nice looking job!

This is a very similar solution to ours. This works well and is a good
adaption of an appallingly unacceptable piece of expensive rubbish.
In the UK we would define this product as 'unfit for purpose' and as such
should be outlawed. (but I suppose it is still being sold)

Mine too broke first time used them. Here is the repair which I did - now been working for 8 years without problems.

1) take a cs machine screw - like the longer ones used to attach the cowling.
2) countersink one of the large penny washers and attach the screw so you now have a machine screw with a large flat head. I think I welded and ground mine; araldite 420 might do it.
3) get rid of the plastic screw bit and grind/sand where it attaches to the vent flat
4) screw the machine screw into the black knob on the vent casing. It will cut its own thread
5) Put some araldite 420 on the washer/screw head and turn the knob until its is hard against the vent. Let it set and all done.

I tried repairing these NACA vents and the repair has broken. I liked one of the ideals for fixing them from Remi, but the time and effort would have been to much. I'm lazy and want to go flying. I looked at what Roddy did and I liked his ideal, but my knob was to far gone.

I drilled out the knob and took a 10-32 bolt (AN4-6) and using resin and fibers glued the bolt into the knob. I then riveted a nutplate onto an AN-960 washer. I had to grind the edges off to fit in the hole inside of the NACA vent. That was glued too. I also ground down the nutplate to about half its normal length. I left a shoulder on the movable part of the vent where the bolt makes contact so that it would not blown out once I opened it in the air.

The one question I have? Is there enough air pressure on the movable vent to force it open?
