Does anyone know how I can detach or remove the fuel tanks from the
wings? I unscrewed the screws on the wing but the tank refuses to budge.
Due to a fuel leak I need to remove the starboard tank. Fuel was
dripping from the trailing edge of the wing root.
Thanks.

Hi George,
I think there might be a hand full of AN3 bolts that you'll have to remove from the aft side of the spar before you can drop the fuel tank. On the RV-8, there were a lot of bolts. A lot. I can't remember if the -6/-4 have the same arrangement, but it would stand to reason.

Took mine off a couple of months ago, just have to wiggle it the sheet metal
pinches down on the inner metal, make sure you have the fuel lines, fuel
sending wires disconnected, and the wing to fuselage trim metal off.

Remove the wing to fuselage fairing and remove the single AN-5 bolt in the tank to fuselage fitting at the front of the inboard tank rib, plus all fuel lines and tank sender electrical leads, Then just wiggle and pull. It takes some effort to lift the dimples in the tank skins out of their countersinks.

After you remove all screws from the upper and lower surface, you must also remove the AN3 bolt at the wing root, where it attaches to the fuselage. Fuel line needs removed, and after carefully sliding the tank forward, you should be able to roll the tank (leading edge up) and turn the outboard end aft, and remove the wire to the fuel sending unit.

I used 'popsicle' sticks (available at craft stores) to hold the tank flanges off the spar while pulling it off; it helps keep the skin dimples from scratching the spar flange.
On my -4, I had to pull the fuel line back into the fuselage so the root end of the tank could be pulled forward.

I have removed both tanks on my RV6 and it was definitely difficult. One tank came off eventually using the wiggle and pull technique, but the other wouldn't come off. I think some proseal was holding it on. I took a small "L" shapped pry bar( about 12") and put a piece of rubber hose on the small end. I put a piece of aluminum against the spar face to pry against and put the hose end of the bar between the spar face and tank baffle. After prying GENTLY it forced the tank forward and freed it loose.
