Good morning,
I have two problems that may or may not be related.
My CHT is lower than normal which requires me to be running the shutters closed occasionally; the temps appear colder than usual.  A little further back, my oil temps are running hotter than normal.  Seems a little counter-intuitive.

Details:
Cruise,
3500'
75 degrees out...
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks,

I run with my shutters and oil door ¾ to fully closed when in temps 80 or lower except during
a steep long climb.

In which case I suspect your engine is running significantly too rich and you're wasting quite a lot of money on fuel!

I have no experience with the HS-6 engine, but would assume that the carburettor must be extremely similar to the Russian carburettor which contains what the Russians call a "suction" jet, but I would call "compensating" in which a smaller jet means more fuel. These come in a range from 1.1 to 2.0 mm; are very easy to change. The right jet should be installed based on its ability to keep cylinder temperatures in the right range, and for most engines this will reduce fuel consumption.

Phil;

I concur with Tom Elliot’s comments. That is typical of CJ operating temperatures.
A little difficult to understand your problem. You show cruise at 3500 ft. with a temperature of 75 degs. ?? Is that the OAT or the Oil Out temp.? If it is Oil Out you are running far too cold.
Except in very hot weather it is difficult to maintain adequate Oil In temperature. Please clarify.

your CJ is only reading one cyl on the front gauge. The cyl head temps vary widely from cyl to cyl

Do you know if your oil temp and or cyl head sensors and gauges are even indicating correctly?

When was the last time you pulled and cleaned your oil cooler? Lot's of oil goes down there and picks up lots of dirt.

Phil,

Keith might have a point.

Did you check the accuracy of
your Cyl.-head-temp gauge
set-up???

The lead from the thermocouple
to the instrument has a fabric
insulation what disintegrates over
the years. If that happens your
readings will be off and inaccurate(ly).

As far as I remember, Doug Sapp has
those leads in stock and that might be
a cheap fix for your problem.

Good luck.

cheers

Elmar
