Transmits beautifully, but only receives up to 1/2 mile.
Bench checked by a shop as AOK.

What is pin 10 on the P401 ? (The antenna is currently connected to ANT only.)
Feels like an antenna problem. Wondering about the unused pin 10...

It appears that the KX145 is among the first generation
of Nav/Com transceivers wehrein the there is only one
receiver . . . you can either listen to a comm channel

Later radios were 1-1/2 Nav/Comm indicating that there
is a full-up transmitter-receiver pair PLUS a separate
nav receiver.

The early nav/comms had two antennas too. The first
was the vertical 'whisker' for transmit only; the
second was the horizontal-V for receive only of
either comm or nav.

This explains the pin 10 connection which is the
center conductor of your receive coax. If you're
not connected to that pin, then receive performance
would be VERY poor.

If you don't plan to use the vor feature, then
you can install an antenna relay . . .

the comm-whisker and transfer it to the
trasmitter during talk-time.

I have a KX145 manual. It there's any info I can look up to help with this issue, drop me a note.

Bob, I'm still in the process of scanning it so you can add it to your collection. Just hasn't made it to the top of the priority list.

Bob,

I have a copy of the manual I scanned in several years ago. I scanned
at a high resolution. I believe it fills 5+ DVDs. I sent a copy to Bob
N. He may have created a smaller copy of it. I would be willing to sell
the copy I have, if you're interested in having a paper copy. I also
have a KX-145 and vor head, if you're interested in having one for spare
parts.

There are optical character recognition (OCR) programs that will convert scanned documents into text. The size of the text file is a very small fraction of the file size of the original scanned document. The biggest advantage of a text file is that a computer can search it for certain key words. A disadvantage is that the OCR program will make errors that need to be found and corrected.

Given the number of diagrams, graphs, tables, etc, I don't think the
manual is a good candidate for conversion by OCR software.

The KX-145 installation manual I have is
available at http://tinyurl.com/zg3feyc

It has been 'massaged' by Adobe Acrobat for
character recognition and searching.

The manual I have is the "Maintenance/Overhaul Manual 5110". It
completely fills a 2" ring binder.

Bob,

Just noticed your subject line.

Looking at the diagram I have I believe #10 is the center of the nav
antenna coax. There are 2 connectors. This is on the longer of the 2,
***NOT*** the one that connects to the KI-205.

If you need more info, let me know.
