My guess is that the tapes at 45 do very little to increase the over all structure of the wing !



I say that because I know that the upper skin has no tapes on it. I think the lower skin has no tapes in front of the spar. The wing is only as strong as it weakest part.  If the tapes were adding to the structure, they would also be needed on the upper skin. 



Just another way of saying the Europa is "one strong bird". Build it carefully and fly it with confidence.  I am !!!
