Subject: 701 front spar (horizontal stabilizer)
I was at a flyin recently and Joe Spencer had his 701 there. His A/C handled and flew so much
better than mine at low speed when at low or idle power that I decided to do all of his mods to
my 701.--remove slats and install your VGS --completed last week. Am now working on the
Symmetrical tail , I have 2 questions. Using the layout provided on your 701 page , station
# 320 shows to have a stand off of 20 mm , I can't make that work however 30mm seems to work .Is the 20 mm a typo or am I doing something wrong? At station 245 the original front spar is 104 mm deep and is made from .016 6061T6 the the new spar can only be 79 mm deep. Question
Is in order to be sure and maintain strength or the spar , is it made from .016 , .025 , or even .032 or Is some other method used to maintain strength?
I realize I may be sending this to the wrong people , if that is true I hope that you will forward
It to someone that can help. Or will send me the address of someone that can .So far I haven't been able to contact Joe Spencer. Thanks for any consideration.
