Good flight.  Same weather we had at hauck's holler today.

The urge finally hit me.  Went over to Gantt IAP and got the old gal out of the hanger.  Dropped both float bowls and drained a good fuel sample.  All looked good.  Hand propped the 912 a bit, checked the dip stick, and hit the starter.  A blade or two and the engine fired and ran rather smoothly for the first time since I landed on my return trip from Oregon in Sep.  Got .5 hours.  Was rusty, but could still fly pretty good.  Was tempting fate because of the bent tube brace on the left landing gear leg mount, but was careful to make a halfway decent landing.  One take off and one landing.  That was chance enough until I bite the bullet, pull the landing gear, and have it repaired.

When I was doing my preflight, I checked the lower tail wires.  Low and behold, there was Alvord and Rock House dust and dirt packed on the wire and turn buckles.  Amazing that stuff stuck on there for several thousand miles, all the way back to Alabama.

Glad you got to fly today.

Got the RAM back today after two weeks.  The Dodge Boys couldn't find out what my problem was, but didn't charge me anything and gave me a new Chrysler 300 to drive.  I'm not much of a car guy.  It felt so good to get back into that big ole RAM and hit the road for Titus.  I don't know what kind of electronic glitch it had or has, but so far so good.  I worked the 4WD and low range systems hard for a couple hours over at the farm.  Probably went into and out of both more than I have since I bought the truck two years ago.

My best guess is the original Chrysler batteries failed at two years, same as their warranty, put a low voltage bug into the computer, and took a couple tried to purge itself after the new batteries were installed.  I'm hoping so.  Not much fun when stuff like that happens.

Good luck on the foot operation.  Hoping you'll be up and going long before 4 months.

Things are a bit boring, not much going on, so here is a "just for fun" video. Same scenery, different song. I listen to "Pandora" a lot, and I heard this song on it and was enthralled with it. I went on Amazon and bought it for .99 cents with the express plan of putting it on a fun video yet to be made.



It has been winter here for quite a long time, with lots of fog and wind. Today was quite nice, and since I am going in Wed to get a bone spur removed from my right foot, it was time for a treat to give me something to look forward to. They tell me that the full recovery is about 4 months. That is going to keep me grounded for a lot of the spring flying.



The camera is a Virb, and while the clarity is pretty remarkable, it still has a little shake to it at times. My preferred cruise speed is of course the one that causes the most wave and vibration. The best is the slowest viable speed, and it was my thought that the fast cruise was also stable, so today I went full cruise rpm's. That gave me some pause because high 70's mph speeds causes some heavy aileron forces. Low to the ground, heavy ailerons, one needs to pay attention. Still a lot of fun however. I noticed that sometimes the speed shown is sometimes not the same as what is realistic. I like to think that my flying speeds are correct, but I wouldn't swear to it however.

Hi Larry,
Good luck with the op. Back in my gliding days I took a side track and tried hang gliding. I broke my leg. However I got the hospital to put a ridge in the base of my plaster cast to fit the rudder pedals in my glider so I was able to get back to flying my glider long before the cast came off. May be you can work something similar. Cheers. Pat

Very nice Video. I love the GPS Data and track log on the video.
