Hello Everyone:
There are times where reality has to step in and ask the dreams to step aside - and that's where I am with the construction of my Zenith experimental - and consequentially the sale of this flight-prepped Corvair motor with Mobile Test Stand and Dynamometer.
The Motor -
This is a Corvair s/n T0I07RG w/3878569 cylinder heads. The engine is equipped with a 64" Warp Drive prop (protractor and instructions included). The following (N = new) (U = used) parts or services were put into this motor:
- reground crankshaft
- (U) 0-200 Marvel-Schebler Carburetor
- (N) pistons .030 over
- (N) ring set
- (N) rod bearings
- (N) main bearings
- (N) OT-10 cam
- (N) intake & exhaust valves
- (N) rocker arms
- (U) Suburu starter
- (U) 12-plate oil cooler
- rebuilt harmonic balancer
- rebuilt Delco alternator
Also included: Oil separator, fuel tank, new (2016) battery, Mallory automatic coil selector.
William Wynne parts include:
- E/P (electronic/points) remanufactured distributor
- Front Alternator Pulley
- Safety Shaft
- Gold oil pan w/installation kit
- prop hub
- ring gear
- hybrid studs
The Mobile Test Stand/Dynamometer -
The test stand/dynamometer is a road-worthy homebuilt trailer of steel tube construction, leaf spring suspension, 4.80x8 tires with 5-bolt rims, 2" lockable hitch with safety chains, and all required lighting (stop, signal, and marker lights) for an active Connecticut trailer registration with a VIN number assigned by the state.
The dynamometer has the Corvair engine mounted on a engine mount attached to a pivoting carrier with a torque arm attached to a hydraulic cylinder which can measure pressure applied to the torque arm by the engine which can be converted to horsepower. Pictures are available - it's an ingenious system that works.
Instrumentation on the test stand includes:
- hydraulic pressure gauge for measuring engine force
- Stewart-Warner tachometer with non-contact capacitance sensor
- oil temperature
- oil pressure
- fuel pressure
- cylinder head temperature with (1) sparkplug-type sensor
- exhaust gas temperature
- manifold pressure gauge
Test stand controls:
- ignition switch
- throttle with vernier adjustment
- mixture
- primer (spare primer included)
THIS MOTOR IS NOT SUITABLE FOR FLIGHT AS IT SITS. The unit requires a complete teardown and inspection before trusting your life behind it. In addition I STRONGLY suggest the installation of a 5th bearing.
Asking price is $7000 for both the engine and the test stand - I will not separate the two. Pictures are available on request. I can deliver within 100 miles of Hartford CT at no charge - longer distances can be negotiated or I can deliver to your shipping company.

Thank you
