I ended up turning the entire terminal on my float sender, not unscrewing the screw as I thought I was doing. In other words the screw was tight enough that the entire threaded brass body was turning with the screw. I got at least a 360 on it before I realized what I'd done.
Is someone familiar enough with the sender to know if turning the threaded body would ruin the sender? Is there now a twisted ball of haywire on the inside, or was it designed to tolerate that? Someone please tell me I don't have to pull the sender!
Any tricks on how to get that screw out also much appreciated.

I attached a photo of the sender unit. I would think it would be extremely difficult to rotate the entire internal sending unit assembly without noticing or hearing it. More that likely you just rotated the nutsert. As to removing the screw, I suspect that you may have to pull the sending unit. If you do that, I suggest you replace it after doing all the work to remove it, and the chance that it may leak round the nutsert.

Just a thought....not sure whether one can remove the sending unit with the wing in its attached position. Did all my manipulating of the sending units prior to installing wings.
Of course, I "assume" one could "just" remove the fuel tank to have ease of working with replacement, getting all the bends done correctly to the arm.
I also suspect that while the existing sender may not leak, it probably has a broken electrical connection that will result in full scale deflection of fuel gauge.

I attached a photo of the sender unit. The wire that goes to the potentiometer is attached to the body, not the other end of the nutsert. I would suspect that at best, you may notice a leak. Use the wire from the old sending unit.

Thanks guys. I ordered new senders. I decided it's not worth wondering.
