has anyone moded the new style buble doors to open in flight?
i need to do that for a guy and thinking of strenghting the hinge area and installing 2 gas struts to do it
any other thoughts?

It seems like opening the bubble doors in flight would be a terrible idea. They have a large surface area combined with a cup shape.
This would in the least create a large pitch variation and adverse yaw if not opened on both sides.
The forces exerted against the frame and hinge would be large given the long length. If the hinge did not give out, then at least a large stress will be placed on the subframe there.
If the door did come off then the risk to catastrophic damage to the tail seems great.
Wasn't there an indicdent mentioned on the list where the door popped open in flight causing it to tear off and hit the tail?

A second incident has since happened with a Savannah. This time the door didn't rip off, but got badly mangled. An open door like that can ride nice and stable until the 80kt airflow catches it wrong, and then all hell breaks loose! Take care.....

It would be nice if someone could figure and share how to put a wind up type spring on the inside if the door handle. One that would require a firm twist to open the handle.

My door opened on my first flight. It was impossible to pull it back and close
it. You would need superhuman strength. You can' overpower the wind. Unlike the the pilot that John mentioned my door did not slam into the bottom of the wing with the door handle piercing the bottom wing skin before ripping off and hitting the horizontal tail, never to be found, my door went up high, did not damage the wing, could not be reached so I slowed airspeed and it lowered to about 45Degrees. It flew stable, like a third wing. I considered my options and decided to ignore it which I am sure was correct.I landed safely and changed the angle of the bracket that holds the door handle latch. It has not happened again. The bracket was in a neutral position and the latch vibrated loose on downwind. I changed the angle slightly to cause the latch to want to stay closed. This is not the "Bubble" door.

With the bubble door we added 2 additional latches driven by rods from the original latch simular to the 801. After door is latched we have added a simple latch at the front of the door to pull door in out of air flow.
The door can still be opened from the outside in an emergency by the original handle as the door will flex enough to release the new front latch.
We also used bolts not rivets in hinge on door.
