Anyone out there have experience building a Murphy Moose AND an RV (preferably an RV-10 or at least a pre-punched model)? I built an RV-10 so I'm curious as to how the build process and times compare to the Murphy's.

I've assisted both a Murphy Super Rebel and an RV-10. I don't really know what to tell you other than the obvious:Both kits have parts that don't fit and need to be completely redone.
Both are big aircraft but the Moose is much bigger and therefore more work. There's just no way around the fact that it takes longer to build a bigger plane.
Pulling rivets is much easier, simpler, and less prone to error than pounding rivets.
Factory support from Van's is obviously better but a couple months ago I was still able to get an email answer from Murphy within 24 hours. It didn't contain the information for the amphib configuration I asked for but then again I don't suppose Van's provides weight and balance for amphibs either.
Both builders were above average happy with their kits.

Thanks— that’s helpful!  I guess in the end what I’m trying figure out is the avg build time and how well my RV experience translates over to the Moose.  Looking to see if that will shorten the build any.  I heard from an SR2500 builder to expect to take between 3000 and 4000 hours for a brand new kit from the factory.  That’s more than I want spend building especially since I’ll have to sell my RV-10  to fund whatever project I settle on.

3000-4000 hours is realistic. Your experience building the RV-10 will

obviously greatly speed up building any aircraft but even professional

build shops can spend 5000 hours building a Moose. It's a huge airframe.

If you have 3500 plus hours, build yourself a moose. The hours noted DO NOT include all the updates, modifications and SB's the aircraft requires; that goes under the "plus hours"

I’ve come to the conclusion that none of the Murphy’s, specifically the Moose, is for us.  Nothing wrong with the planes, just they’ll take more time than I want to expend at this point, especially since I’m going to have to sell my RV-10 to fund the project.  Just don’t want to be without a plane that long and I’ll never willingly rent a plane ever again.  The new Bearhawk 5 is now at the top of the list and we’re flying up to North Carolina next Saturday to checkout a flying and a project 4-place which is close enough to see for ourselves if the Bearhawk checks all the boxes.

Bearhawk is a good 4 place aircraft with the Lycoming  540 series.  A few local guys fly around here and love them for off airport adventures.
