Along the lines of flying in the mountains, I’m just curious to know if any of you have experience flying in to Jackson Hole?
I’d be interested in:
1) the route/altitude you chose to fly into the area. We will be approaching the areas from the east/southeast side.
2) any quirks getting in such as terrain, maneuvering in the valley, etc?
Thanks,
Phil

We came in from the west, so Driggs ID, is an alternative for us. Need a rental car. Jackson Hole looks a lot closer to the ski area but in fact there is a wildlife refuge you have to drive around, so Driggs isn’t that many car miles further and it is less expensive. But to your question: Jackson Hole is in a broad, flat valley. No issues maneuvering. Keep density altitude in mind in the summer.

We flew into Jackson Hole in the summer of 2019. Came from the SE. Once we cleared the final ridge, (I think we were about 11000 ft) the approach into the valley was very comfortable. Plenty of maneuvering room and the view is magnificent. I was having a minor alternator issue that showed up while on approach. The FBO was extremely helpful. They sent a mechanic down to help me troubleshoot. Minor connection issue was quickly identified, he helped me secure it, check operation, reinstall the cowling. All no charge! I tipped him nicely before leaving. We are looking forward to going back. BTW, the flight out heading north to Bozeman, was spectacular.
