I'm wondering what grade & thickness alluminom is used in the Firestarter hinge brackets. The part that rivets to the boom tube.

I think they were just using off the shelf hinges from someplace like Aircraft Spruce. When I tried to alodine the hinges on my Firefly they wouldn't take the dye. I asked Brian about it and he said they came with a clear alodine coating. I don't remember where he said they came from.
Do the plans call out anything more than the rivet spacing? I had the quick build kit and the hinges had the rivet locations dimpled and they were all pre-located on the tube and aileron so I didn't study the plans that closely. Besides it's been 10 years (Yikes).
I'd be happy to measure the Firefly hinges if that would help.

Hi Malcolm,
Are you asking about the metal brackets that the front of the horizontal stabilizers hinge on? If so, I think they might be steel. I can check an old Firestar boom I have. I can also ask the Kolb folks as they will be at the Midwest LSA fly-in that starts tomorrow in Mt. Vernon, IL. I don't know if there was a design change on that part through the years or not.

I did just check, if it's the part I'm thinking of, it is steel. See the photo attached. A magnet hangs onto it.
