When I was in the Air National Guard we got F-106's. They had poor quality stainless steel rudder cables that ran very close to the electronics bay. They soon became magnetized and caused problems. Naturally the full time guardsmen left the job of changing the cables to the part timers. The engine had to be pulled and we had to climb from the cockpit to the rudder inside the fuselage and remove the cables from all the pulleys and replace them with high quality stainless ones. That fixed the problem.
