Hi All,

I now have 24hrs on my Zodiac XL.

I have a problem, however, with the amount of flap I am able to set.

I can only get about 17degrees of flap extension, before the bar that runs from
the flap motor, to the flap actuator arm, touches the top of the compression
strut, that the wings attach to.

Has anyone else had this problem, and is the solution just to extend the arm
length, so that the actuator rod from the motor is higher off the copression
strut?

I have plenty of place on the aux bar, the one with the micro switches on, to
move the micro switches, so that is NOT a problem.

What do you guys think?

Thnx
Jonathan

P.S. Am loving every minute of the flying

The flap actuator arm should be attached to the flap torque tube so
that the arm is almost touching the back of rear frame with the flaps
retracted. If there is any space between the arm and the frame with
the flaps up then there will be that much less travel available in
the actuator arm and you won't get full flap extension.

You could fix this by removing the flap actuator arm and reattaching
it at different angle (which would involve filling in the old drill
hole and drilling a new one at the very least). Or you might be able
to attach an extension to the actuator arm that extends forward at at
right angle to the arm. This will give you a larger increase in
travel then just extending the length of the arm. It will keep the
laver arm the same length but effectively reduce the angle that the
flap actuator attaches to the torque tube. Then the travel would only
be limited by the clearance you have between the lever and the lower
fuselage skin at full travel.

I had limited flap travel too. I think it was in the low 20's of degrees.

Since I've been flying, I find I use about half of the travel I have at most, so I'd be inclined not to mess with it...unless you have a very short field.
