From reading the Garmin GTX330 manual inside and out, it looks
as if when I want to display traffic on my Chelton system
that I might have to manually activate TIS by momentarily
taking pin 46 "TIS CONNECT SELECT" to ground. If I were
displaying traffic on a GNS480, this would be handled
by the GNS480 by that unit signalling the GTX330 to "log in"
to TIS. I'm assuming that since I'm using a special converter
to interface the GTX330 to my Chelton that this function is
something I have to do manually.

Is there anyone out there who can verify the operation of
that transponder using that signal?

Thanks in advance,
Tim

I called Garmin and was told to leave the TIS line open. The Garmin 330
defaults to TIS on at power up and does not need that line to work with
the Chelton. You can put a momentary switch on that line and use it to
turn TIS on and off. I assume that you are using the DAC GDC34 ARINC
429 to RS232 converter? Which other line did you run from your 330? I
have assumed that you only have to run one 429 channel (1 shielded
twisted pair) from the Garmin 330 to the converter.

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply. I should have posted a follow-up
that Garmin told me the same thing. Leave it open and it
defaults to ON. Yes, I have the GDC34A, I ran these lines:

DAC Remote
Pin 2 Serial Out (TX) Chelton J1 pin 5 RX
Pin 3 Serial In (RX) Chelton J1 pin 47 TX
Pin 11 GND Serial Ground Chelton J1 pin 26 GND
DAC GTX330
Pin 5 RX1-A 429 RX 1A Pin 37 ARINC 429OUT 1A
Pin 6 RX1-B 429 RX 1B Pin 34 ARINC 429OUT 1B
Pin 7 TX-A ARINC 429 Transmit A Pin 32 ARINC 429IN 1A
Pin 8 TX-B ARINC 429 Transmit B Pin 35 ARINC 429IN 1B
Pin 13 Common RX Shield

I don't know if there is anything needed coming back from the
Chelton to the GTX330, but I hooked it up just in case. Plus,
when I emailed D2AV my pin connection plan, I got a simple
"Yes" as a reply. So it wasn't a full "yes, that's what
you need, and you have all of the pins right" but at least
their quick glance and reply gave me some promise.

I should be flying this setup within 1.5-2 months, so if
you aren't that far along, I could updated you then.
