I am ordering my fuselage kit and and would like to have the opinion of those who fly their slider in the rain. Do you get wet? Is it too hot for the those flying in the SE during the summer months?
I don't want to start a big discussion, but I am concerned about the water since it will be an IFR aircraft.

David,
Never had a problem with the slider in the rain while flying. However, have
had some water blow in during rain while parked. I think it came in at the
rear slide gap in the canopy skirt. I ususally put a cover over the canopy
while parked away from home but one time I thought I was not going to need
it and it rained.
One of the problems with the tip-up (at least in the past) was water
getting in around the front of the canopy and into the avionics area. Maybe
one of the SERV tip-up people can tell you if that has been fixed in the
newer kits.
I went with the slider because of living in the SE heat. I have a long taxie
to the runway and it sure is nice to push the canopy back and get some big
air on a hot and humid day. Another really nice thing about the
slider...There is a kit you can purchase that allows the slide canopy to
tip-up for loading into the luggage area. It makes loading luggage etc. so
easy vs going over the back of the seat and under the rollover bar on the
tip-up or the forwared canopy bow on the conventional slider. I consider
this one of the best mods I made to my 6A.

Five of us flew to a formation clinic just prior to Oshkosh this year.
Two had sliders. There was a lot of rain enroute and those with sliders
had to have tape applied to the front seam (by others) before engine
start and they were stuck in a hot cockpit until airborne. After
landing they were hesitant to open the canopy if it was raining because
the water went right into their radio stack! The tip up slider mod is
really neat and combines the best of both configurations IMHO.
While we are on the subject of rain, you might want to discuss wooden
props! Or NOT.

The slider had trouble with the rain in the radio stacks or are you talking
about the tip up?

Actually it was the **TIP-UPs** that had the problems.
The slider does not have the "rain into the radio stack" potential problem.
Do **NOT** get a wood prop if you plan to fly in the rain a lot at "full speed".
Go metal or the composite from MT.

Thanks everyone, I ordered the slider today.
The tip-up option looks to be strong possibility. After all it's only money and I have not purchased the avionics yet! Maybe I'll just use my handheld radio and gps. Who needs an avionics stack.

While at SnF this spring Radomir and I saw an RV-6 tip-up where the gut
took some rip-stop nylon and Velcro'ed it over the gap between the two
panels. This effectively worked as a rain gutter, directing any water
off to either side. He said he hasn't had any problems since doing
this.
