Has anyone done the dorsal fin mod.?
Was it worth the effort? I am considering doing it before covering, just like to get some input first.

Hi Eric:
I did. I think the dorsal ridge enhances the overall appearance of the
kitfox. It also prevents water from just sitting there. There are some
pictures in the photo gallery of my web page.

Eric,
I have pictures on SportFlight:
http://www.sportflight.com/cgi-bin/uploader.pl?action=view&epoch=1028485209
I think it improves the aesthetics as well as smooths the airflow at the
bulkhead at the from of the rear access. I got grief that I had added to
much weight to the plane. They are probably right, I could have done it
lighter, but the wood I used was very light redwood. I am please with the
result.

Hi Eric,
I just had it done on my IV and I know of two other guys in the phoenix area that have it done and are flying. It sure adds a nice touch. I have photos on my buildsite under Mods if you would like to see it prior to getting covered. www.azshowersolutions.com/Kitfox1.html

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to as a "dorsal fin,"
but on my Model IV-1200 Murle Williams welded a piece of 4130 tubing
from just behind the turtledeck to the base of the vertical
stabilizer. I usually refer to it as a dorsal fin.
We found that this made applying the fuselage fabric easier in the
area at the base of the vertical tail. The increase in surface area
also slightly increases yaw stability and, in my opinion, improves
the aesthetics.
We just got through welding a similar piece onto the fuselage of my Series 6.

Hey Mike,
Did you get your 6 back from powder-coating yet?
