Yes... it had a fixed, forward firing gun installed - aimed by the pilot.



 .... as well as some extras in the bomb aiming position and twin gun mounts for the waist gunners....

 Not sure how many of you have seen any of the episodes of the Discovery Channel's Dogfights but, I was just watching one of "Swede" Vejtasa out dogfighting 3 Jap Zeros in an SBD Dauntless.  Then, it ends with him shooing down 7 zeros in another dogfight while flying a Grumman Hellcat.



 The next episode was of a B-17 "Old 666" taking on 17 Jap Zeros in a dogfight.
