I took the time to really get my workshop cleaned up and while working through my "to be used" parts I came across a 4th push pull cable (cabin heat type). I will have two for cabin heat (rear & front) one for alternative air for the airbox. So why is there a forth since it came with the kit?
Am I missing something here?

I have it also. If you installed the air cut off door in the front of the air box, then you would use it.

I don’t have any pictures, but the new cooler is the one Alex sells and I put a butterfly valve on the back of the baffling in order to control the airflow. I can’t remember who I bought the butterfly valve from…..I will have to look that up at home.

Rene, how much was the cooler and did you need to replace both the Vans supplied oil cooler and the mounting box?
Any chance of a contact for Alex please.

Got the oil cooler here
http://www.aviationtechproducts.com/html/engine__parts.html
$427
I have not flown with it yet, so I don’t know if it will help my oil heat problem. In the summer I have to restrict climbs due to oil heat……we will see this year.
Not wanting the oil to be to cold, I put in this air controller, also have not flown with it in order to check the effectiveness….

That oil cooler gives probably about 15-20 degrees cooler oil compared to the standard Van's cooler. I would consider that a must have if you are in a hot environment. If you are between heat and cold, then you might want to go with the valve so you can let your oil warm up when it's cold. It works really well. When open, it doesn't look like it will restrict airflow much at all, but closing it will let your oil warm up when it's cold. For those who don't put in the carb heat/alternate air door, you can use the cable that comes with the FWF kit to work this valve.

Yep, it is the same form factor, just has more fins inside. I will not know until this summer how much it helped the oil temp.
It only took about 10 minutes to change it out. If anyone wants a stock cooler cheap….I got one.
