Hi guys,
Once upon a time, some kind soul either sent me directly or pointed me
in the right direction so I could see both photos and drawings of the
door lock mechanism.
Alas, I cannot seem to locate them...can anyone help me out?

Are you referring to the mechanism to lock the doors with a key?
If so, would you rather have the thieves just walk away with your fancy
headset, or do you want them to pry the door open with a screwdriver or
smash a window first? We are talking about thieves, if they want
something, they don't care about damaging your Europa.
I have deliberately no locks on my Europa. If thieves want something, I
rather want them taking it without damaging anything.

Certain amount of sense in that Frans, a good strong cover is a good plan though. More difficult to see what you have and makes it a little more awkward for the thief

Franz,
I put my lock in because of airshows and non-home airport stays.
At Sun n Fun, there can be 50,000 non-pilots wandering the flightline with little supervision.
Some thefts of opportunity can clearly be prevented.
Of course, locks don't prevent the damage done by kids running amongst the aircraft or by smoking either.

Fred,
Here is how I do it. As I'm sure you know, it is a deterrent system. You can't stop a determined thief, but it deters the less considerate person from opening up your cockpit uninvited. You won't believe what people do at air shows.. I actually prefer a cockpit cover, but that has drawbacks to.

THAT'S IT...exactly!
Nice design...simple, direct, robust...and I love the idea of
"keys"...which give me the option of engaging the "lock" if, and only
if, I choose to do so.
Thank you very much Ian,
Fred

Thanks Bud...nice solution!
You're no doubt correct about a determined thief...but my concern is more about determined lovers...the way I see it, my Ms. Europa will be sooooo sexy, that she will attract and inspire the passionate who will endeavor to experience "oneness" within her cockpit.
On the other hand, come August, anyone who doesn't lock their car in my village runs the risk of returning to their vehicle and finding it stuffed with zucchini...August is also when our Orcas Island fly-in is held, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Bud...nice refinement w/ the "double D" hole and the inside knob (presumably) to ensure that rear door latch is engaged...question: Can the pilot reach both knobs?...I'm going to run out to the shop and make sure I can reach them while sitting in Ms. Europa.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> Fred,
I can and I am 5-10, so I believe most can. I always push on the backs and front of each door before takeoff as a door loss deterrent.
