After a 6 year hiatus, I'm back on the list. I'm looking for another CJ, so let me know what you have. Hello to all my old friends, and to those of you who don't know me.

Pete,
I like your paint job, it's exactly how I did mine.
How did you arrive at the engine and airframe times? Do you have the original Chinese Logs? What overhaul # is the engine on 1st 2nd or 3rd?
Was the ADF wiring removed?
What prompted the prop replacement?
Any damage history?
What oil are you using?
Does it have schrader fittings?
What else is included in the sale?
Thanks
Ernie

Mine's for sale. This is no cast-off scruffy "cheap" plane, it's a well-maintained, frequently flown and excellent condition CJ.

The engine was purchased by Bob Watts (the previous owner) from Jim Selby, it's believed to be first overhaul. It doesn't have original logs but Jim is familiar with the motor. The airframe hours are estimated based on a guess of 3500 hours in Chinese service. The plane has been in the U.S. since 1991 (it's one of the first 10) so the US logbooks cover the last 22 years. The engine that's on there now replaced a 1200 hour motor that the plane previously had that I believe Keith Harbor now has (he did the engine installation back in 2007 or so).
The airframe hours were counted several different ways over it's life. Eventually a hobbs meter was installed but given how much formation time I do and how much time we spend on the ground (getting 5 or 6 planes across the airport and warmed up and ready to go takes time), I personally do all my maintenance based on tach hours.
Quote: | Was the ADF wiring removed?
|
Most of it is. The instrument panels and some of the cockpit has original wiring but the chinese radios and ADFs are long gone. I have the original radio boxes in the cockpit, my plan was to someday gut them and hinge them and make them into storage bins.
Quote: | What prompted the prop replacement?
|
I was parked in the dirt/grass at All Red Star a couple of years ago and got a pretty bad rock ding on one prop blade from a plane running up in front of me that ended up getting some intergranular corrosion so I replaced the blades.
Quote: | Any damage history?
|
Not that I'm aware of. None that was ever recorded and if you do a search for 4183E, there isn't any mention in the NTSB database (other than the original Piper that carried that N number before this plane had it).
Quote: | What oil are you using?
|
Phillips 25/60 and it has a 10 micron oil filter. I've been doing 50 hour oil changes with Blackstone oil analysis each time (which validates the oil change interval). I used aeroshell 100 for a while but prefer the Phillips. I just did an oil change yesterday as well as the 25 hour air system service (dryer) and 50 hour greasing the landing gear.
To quote Blackstone: "The typical interval we see is about 30 hours, so it's great to
see nice and low metals in this sample after a longer oil change interval."
Quote: | Does it have schrader fittings?
|
Chinese fittings on the gear legs, shrader on the main air tank. I have the valve and regulator for topping up the main air system that I can include in the sale.
Quote: | What else is included in the sale?

It has a full canopy cover, pitot cover and a few spare parts (some gill shutters and miscellaneous stuff). Some spare rocker gaskets...stuff like that. Flying helmet and scuba tank are negotiable.

> How did you arrive at the engine and airframe times? Do you have the original Chinese Logs? What overhaul # is the engine on 1st 2nd or 3rd?

|

|
Quote: | Â Does it have schrader fittings?
|
Chinese fittings on the gear legs, shrader on the main air tank. I have the valve and regulator for topping up the main air system that I can include in the sale.

It has a full canopy cover, pitot cover and a few spare parts (some gill shutters and miscellaneous stuff). Some spare rocker gaskets...stuff like that. Flying helmet and scuba tank are negotiable.
