Mike,
Despite the fact that it eventually was called a Pulsar, I have always loved the KIS Cruiser name and if I ever get off you old butt and finish mine it will get the attached Logo on it. I believe the official FAA designation is TR-4.

Hello Robert, and other TR-4 fans. Pulsar may have been the last Shepard of KIS but they did not do a very good job. Previously I thought they contracted Rich while working for CS Composites (the new owner of High Tech Composites) to mold up 5 TR-4s. But recent information leads me to believe they only molded 4 TR-4 kits. One was crashed by Degani (I couldn't be happier about that one). One was sold in Germany, one went to Zizo in Brazil, and the last one was supposed to go to Australia but I think that guy got ripped off totally. Pulsar never molded any TR-1s. Degani never fully compensated Rich for the designs or the time he spent working for this directionless company, yet Degani sued Rich for taking his own airplane when he left for Brazil. God evened the score at the end of that Ilopango runway.
The type fonts used on the factroy prototype TR-4 for KIS was a italic sans serif or gothic type font. The Cruiser type font is a really old type face called Brush (this font may have other names - people change it slightly and call it something else to save paying royalties). When I printed things I used Palatino bold Italic a standard font on the MAC platform for the KIS logo. Attached is a picture off the first TR-4 brochure. It has Souvenir (a funky 70s type font) used for KIS which was the wrong font but I had trouble figuring out what the face was from the poor quality pics Rich sent me. But the Cruiser part on this pic is correct.

I know it isn't an "official" logo but I like the one Dave Tate made for SN 4052. I still have the original one inside the airplane as a testament to Dave and his work.

Hello All
Thanks for the input Mark, when I Google the "Brush" font used for "Cruiser" I get something completely different so if somebody has a better indication of a font name for the Cruiser script I'd appreciate it.
Thanks again
Mike

Galin - Daves logo is cool, and the type faces are pretty close.
Here is a couple links to the Brush type font. I have in my files somewhere a close up picture of the TR-4 prototype logo. I will dig it out after Oshkosh. It will show the type face used for the KIS.

Robert - to finish my previous rant - the way I see it the only pulsar TR-4s are the one in Germany, and the Zizo's in Brazil. All others are pure KIS!

The official ICAO and FAA designator for the TR-4 is KIS4. This is to be used for flight plans.

The ICAO document for all aircraft designations is at: http://www.icao.int/DOC 8643
If you go on line and search for the KIS4 and view the official photo you will see my airplane (N819PR) prominently displayed.

For the FAA the document is JO 7340.2A "Contractions". It is the same as ICAO Â Doc 8643.On Thursday, July 9, 2015, Galin Hernandez <galinhdz(at)gmail.com (galinhdz(at)gmail.com)> wrote:

Attached is the logo Rich put on the prototype KIS Cruiser TR-4. The C and the r should be moved together and connected but Rich was an airplane maker not a typographer. The airplane is still in China part of a huge deal that was never completed. Rich was well ahead of the pack with this licensing deal that was to produce both the TR-1 and TR-4 in China. The TR-4 is a certified aircraft in China - our own Mark K. did the engineering work to satisfy the Chinese certification requirements. If the deal was completed I would venture to say Tri-R Technologies would have made it at least to the economic down turn the banking system dealt to us all! Recent news from the far east is that the TR-1 has been moved to western China where they are attempting to fly it. xhu ni haoyun

NICE. I didn't know the TR-4 is a certified airplane in China. I wonder if we can somehow use that fact to our advantage.

It wasn't an advantage to TRI-R.
The Chinese probably stole it.

Galin - Not sure what advantage the Chinese certification would bring other than another feather to add to the hat. Their requirements are surely less than our own standards here in the USA. The certification may have been based on modifications that never came to be. As far as I know they never built any airplanes or even molded any parts. Mark K may known more on this subject. I do know the deal was for between $500,000 and $600,000, it included a flying TR-1, and a flying TR-4, completes sets of tooling for both aircraft, and engineering information. The deal went about two thirds of the way through, and for some reason kind of died out at that point. Either the money dried up or went to the wrong place, I just do not know.
Al - the Chinese deal was important to Tri-R, it kept the shop going for the better part of two years. And NO they did not steal anything like that bum Degani. They paid for want they got, and who knows it still may come back to life.

They did mold TR-4 parts and I saw a couple of partial aircraft. But I don't think any were completed. To the best of my knowledge only tooling for the TR-4 was sent to China. Last I heard the TR-1 that was sent to China was in Tibet but that was years ago.
The Chinese side (Mr. Chen) and deal broker (Mr. Steve Wang) are honest and trustworthy. I have visited both of them both in the USA and in China. Like any country there are good and there are bad.
