Hi All- I was under the impression viton was not good for reciprocating applications, like brake pucks. Is there any experience out there to the contrary?
Thanks in advance!Â

Been using Viton on the calipers for 10+ years. They last longer than the mil spec o-rings. They are higher temperature rated BUT the down side is they can leak and not seal as well as lower temperatures. I typically do not operate my RV at the lower temperature so it is not a big deal for me.

I replaced the stock break seals on my RV10 with viton seals after they failed due to a long taxi at KOSH one year. Never a problem after that. Also used ATF for fluid due to higher flash point.

Very little reciprocation occurs in disk brake caliper piston. I replaced the original leaking Nitrile O-rings in mine with Viton 15 yrs ago and haven't had a problem since. If you are concerned with the poor low temp performance of Viton in your climate, go with Fluorosilicone.
