All-
For those of you who have a flying Dynon D-100 EFIS w/remote compass, roughly where did you mount the remote compass module?
Thanks.

Bill--
I made a small bracket for mine and mounted it on the floor behind the passenger seat. Been working fine for 240 hours.

I put mine in the back of the baggage compartment. This way it its easy to get to and I have the temperature sensor connected to the outside. One item you need to keep in mine if you actually put baggage in there make sure nothing with a strong magnet, like an electric razor ends up on your remote compass.

George-
With the battery and ELT on a shelf on the passenger side, I don't have any more room. However, I'm sure a shelf on the pilot side would work just as well.
Thanks.

Mine is also mounted on the back wall of the baggage area. Easy to access and sync the relative angle between the remote and the D-100.

Aft of the left seat, riveted to the floor is far enough away from the flap motor not to be affected. This leaves room for the AP servos in the centre and the behind the right seat.

Dred+All-
Unlike the XL, the HDS doesn't have a hatch near the tail. Everything's all buttoned up and I'm not going to tear the fuse top skins off or try crawling back to the tail.
One of the listers who has 200+ hours on his system installed his unit behind the passenger seat. The tray I built for the passenger side is occupied with the battery and ELT. At the same time I built the passenger side tray I built one for the pilot's side, originally intending to mount a tool box on it. I decided against it and tore it off, because the only thing gaining weight faster than I am is my project. Pictures attached for the guy from France who wanted to see some installations.
Luckily, I haven't visited the scrap yard recently so my pilot's side tray was still around. I just stuck it in position for the picture- I'll cut it down to fit the compass unit.
One question for all D-100 owners- how did you determine if the base unit and the compass are mounted within plus or minus 1 degree of each other? I assume this is in the roll axis.

I built my mount for the remote compass yesterday. I"m mounting well back in the fuselage aft of the large access panel.

Use a digital level.

I did the same. Assuming that the plane is built to specs the panel and the Dynon box will be level when installed.

The mount I built for rear fuselage installation had to correct for the 3 degree tilt of that area.

That said doesn't not mounting the remote compass remotely sort of negate the idea of having a remote compass. They provide that long wire for a reason.

This is my 3rd panel built this way and they work perfect. Why route it in some far off location if you don't have to. But what do I know.

That's great that it works for you but, quoting from the installation manual...

Quote:
Keep the EDC-D10A away from any source of magnetic fields (such as electrical equipment and current-carrying wires) and ferrous material.

And if your intallation is anything like any other I've seen there are a metric buttload of "electrical equipment and current-carrying wires" where yours is mounted.

But what do they know, they just built it.
